Acupuncture is based on the concept of Qi (pronounced "chee"), the vital energy that flows through meridians, or pathways, in the body. According to the Traditional Chinese medicine theory, disruptions or imbalances in the flow of Qi can lead to illness or discomfort. Acupuncture needles are inserted into acupuncture points along these meridians to restore the smooth flow of Qi and promote balance within the body. During an acupuncture session, Nadja carefully selects acupuncture points based on the patient's symptoms, constitution, and overall health goals. The needles are inserted to varying depths, depending on the location and condition being treated, and may be gently manipulated to enhance the therapeutic effects.

A form of acupuncture that focuses on the external ear to stimulate specific points, to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Also known as ear acupuncture or auriculotherapy, it is based on the principle that the ear is a microsystem that reflects the entire body, where different points correspond to different organs and systems.
Fine needles or other stimulation methods, such as acupressure, magnets, or ear seeds, are applied to specific points on the ear. These points are believed to connect to various parts of the body through the nervous system and energy pathways (meridians). By stimulating these points, practitioners aim to restore balance and promote healing within the body. The stimulation of ear points can influence the corresponding organs and systems, helping to alleviate symptoms and improve overall well-being.

Burning dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) to stimulate specific points on the body has been practised for centuries. It is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy often used with acupuncture, although it can also be used as a standalone treatment.
During a moxibustion session, a practitioner places a small cone or stick of dried mugwort on or near the skin at specific acupuncture points or body areas. The mugwort is then ignited and burned slowly, producing heat that penetrates the skin and underlying tissues.
The heat from Moxibustion stimulates the flow of Qi, or vital energy, along the body's meridians—channels through which Qi flows according to traditional Chinese medicine. By promoting the smooth flow of Qi, Moxibustion aims to restore balance and harmony within the body, addressing imbalances that may lead to illness or discomfort.
Some benefits of Moxibustion are:
It is an ancient alternative medicine Aninvolves placing cups on the skin to create suction. This therapy has been used for centuries in various cultures, including traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), to promote healing, improve blood flow, and alleviate pain.
How does Cupping work?
During a cupping session, cups are typically made of glass or silicone and placed on specific body areas. The cups are used with a suction pump to create a vacuum effect, which draws the skin and underlying tissue upward into the cup.
The suction from the cups creates a negative pressure that helps to release tension, stimulate circulation, and promote the flow of Qi (vital energy) and blood within the body. Cupping therapy is often used with other forms of treatment, such as acupuncture, massage, or herbal medicine, to enhance its therapeutic effects.
Some benefits of Cupping Therapy are:
A traditional Chinese healing technique involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged instrument to promote circulation and relieve tension. This ancient practice has been used for centuries to treat various health conditions and is renowned for its ability to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and improve overall well-being.
How does Gua Sha work?
The practitioner applies oil to the skin and then uses a smooth-edged tool, often made of jade, quartz, or ceramic, to scrape the skin in long, sweeping strokes. The scraping creates friction, generating heat and increasing blood flow to the area, releasing tension and toxins trapped in the muscles and tissues.
Small red or purple marks, known as petechiae or "sha," may appear as the skin is scraped. These marks signify stagnant blood and toxins being brought to the skin's surface for elimination. While the marks may look like bruises, they are not painful and typically fade within a few days.

Tui Na (pronounced "twee nah") is a form of Chinese therapeutic massage that has been practised for thousands of years. It is one of the oldest known bodywork systems and is an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
It involves various hand techniques, including pressing, kneading, rolling, and stretching, to promote healing, alleviate pain, and restore balance within the body.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow, known as Qi, and promote healing.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the body, releasing natural painkillers, and regulating various physiological processes. It helps restore balance and harmony within the body.
Acupuncture is generally not painful. Most people experience minimal discomfort during needle insertion, often describing it as a slight tingling or dull ache. Any discomfort typically subsides quickly.
Acupuncture can effectively treat a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including pain (such as back pain, migraines, and arthritis), anxiety, stress, insomnia, digestive disorders, and more.
Acupuncture is considered safe when performed by a trained and licensed practitioner. Side effects are rare but may include minor bruising, soreness, or light-headedness, which typically resolve quickly.
The number of acupuncture sessions needed varies depending on the individual's condition, severity of symptoms, and response to treatment. Some people may experience relief after just one session, while others may require multiple sessions for sustained improvement.
It is variable. The first session usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, as it includes a full initial diagnosis, physical exam, and treatment. A typical following acupuncture session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.
The consultation, examination, and treatment will likely take 1 hour and 45 minutes, but this can vary.
To diagnose and treat you appropriately, I must ask you about your current and past health and general well-being. I will send you a Health History form in advance to facilitate this process. As a holistic medicine, Five Element acupuncture addresses your well-being as a whole person, not only your symptoms or illnesses. Therefore, some of my questions may seem less relevant but will be important to me. However, you do not need to tell me any information you are uncomfortable sharing.
Following the consultation, I will perform diagnostic checks, including taking a pulse reading, checking any tender or problem areas, and checking temperature distribution and left/right balance. These examinations are relevant, whatever your health issues, to tell me more about the way your individual system works. I may need to ask you to remove some clothing items to examine you properly, but never underwear.
I will be using very fine, sterilised, single-use needles for your treatment. The number of needles is kept to a minimum, and they may be inserted and removed immediately or left in for a few minutes. Most people only notice a tingling or slight dull ache and find the whole experience relaxing.
During a routine acupuncture session, the practitioner will conduct an initial assessment, discuss your health concerns, and create a personalised treatment plan. You will lie comfortably while the practitioner inserts thin needles into specific acupuncture points.
Acupuncture is generally safe during pregnancy when performed by a qualified practitioner. It can help alleviate common pregnancy-related symptoms such as nausea, back pain, fatigue, and stress. However, it's essential to inform your acupuncturist if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant to ensure safe and appropriate treatment.
