I’m Nadja, and my fascination with traditional Chinese medicine began in my teenage years. I was drawn to its wisdom: the attention it gives to our emotions, everyday habits and relationship with nature, and its understanding that caring for someone means seeing the whole person.
That curiosity stayed with me throughout my career as a medical doctor in Brazil, where I specialised in Endocrinology and Metabolism, earned a Master’s in Medical Sciences and taught future doctors. My medical work deepened my respect for science, but also my appreciation of each person’s individual experience of health and illness. I wanted to help bridge the gap between Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, bringing an informed, thoughtful understanding of both to the way I care for people.
After moving to the UK in 2020, I followed that longstanding passion and completed the three-year, BAAB-accredited acupuncture programme at The Acupuncture Academy, graduating with Distinction. Today, at AcuZen Acupuncture in Chester, I welcome adults, children and teenagers, with a particular focus on Five Element acupuncture.
What I value most about Five Element acupuncture is its deeply personal approach. Within this traditional framework, physical symptoms, emotional wellbeing and the wider circumstances of your life are considered together. For me, its wisdom lies in paying close attention—to what you tell me, how you feel and what matters to you.
Your appointment is a space to feel heard, ask questions and understand your options. I draw on my medical background and acupuncture training to tailor your care, with gentle non-needle options available for both children and adults. My work in the UK is as an acupuncturist, offering complementary care alongside your GP or specialist where appropriate.
I am fully insured, a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA), and have undertaken additional training in treating children and teenagers.
My aim is simple: to bring together clinical understanding, traditional wisdom and genuine human connection, so you feel supported as an individual throughout your care.

Five Element Acupuncture, a key aspect of traditional Chinese medicine, is grounded in an ancient theory that connects our lives to the rhythms of nature. Each element embodies unique characteristics: Wood symbolises spring’s growth, flexibility, and direction; Fire reflects summer’s warmth, joy, and connection; Earth represents nourishment, care, and stability; Metal encompasses autumn’s themes of boundaries, value, and letting go; while Water signifies winter’s rest, reserves, and willpower.
These five elements exist within us all and work together to nourish and regulate our physical and emotional well-being. Each element correlates with specific organ systems, emotions, and qualities, which are understood through the lens of holistic health rather than solely through Western anatomy.
What sets Five Element acupuncture apart is its emphasis on identifying the element that most needs support, which informs the selection of acupuncture points based on your symptoms and health history. At our Chester acupuncture clinic, clients often share positive reviews highlighting the personalised approach we take to acupuncture for pain relief, for example, seamlessly integrating your physical concerns and emotional state.
For those looking to explore this nurturing practice, we offer acupuncture gift cards, making it easy to share the benefits with loved ones. Additionally, our auricular acupuncture services provide targeted relief focused on specific areas of the body. With convenient online booking available, prioritising your health has never been simpler. Experience the unique and supportive nature of Five Element Acupuncture today.

Chinese medicine encompasses much more than just acupuncture, especially when considering acupuncture for pain relief. Developed over millennia, traditional Chinese medicine draws on concepts such as Yin and Yang, Qi, and the Five Elements to describe relationships within the body and between people and their environment. These traditional frameworks for understanding health are distinct from Western anatomical and medical explanations.
Traditional practices include acupuncture services like auricular acupuncture, moxibustion, medical massage, dietary guidance, movement, and herbal medicine. Auricular acupuncture and acupressure involve the stimulation of selected points, with or without the insertion of needles. Moxibustion applies careful warmth using the herb mugwort, while Tui Na massage offers a Chinese therapeutic massage adapted to age and comfort. Cupping and Gua Sha are techniques that utilise suction cups or a smooth tool on the skin as appropriate, and laser acupuncture provides a non-needle option by using light to stimulate selected points.
The wider tradition of holistic health also includes Chinese dietary therapy, which considers eating patterns, food preparation, and seasonal choices. Additionally, Qigong and Tai Chi involve the combination of movement, breathing, and attention. Furthermore, Chinese herbal medicine requires specialised prescribing expertise, which is not currently offered at our Chester acupuncture clinic.

At our Chester acupuncture clinic, we offer gentle, personalised care for babies, children, and teenagers—with or without the use of needles. Our paediatric acupuncture services adapt traditional Chinese medicine to the changing needs of your child from infancy through adolescence. At AcuZen in Hoole, Chester, Nadja takes into account your child’s physical concerns alongside their emotional wellbeing, sleep, digestion, and daily routines, taking the time to understand each child as a unique individual.
Nadja has completed additional paediatric acupuncture training with Rebecca Avern through TCM Academy and is proud to be a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA). By choosing a practitioner with dedicated paediatric training, you can be assured that Nadja knows how to effectively tailor assessment, communication, and treatment to meet the distinct ages, development, and sensitivities of children.
Each session starts with getting to know your child and listening to your concerns. Treatment may include gentle acupressure, Tui Na massage, laser acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, ear seeds, or moxibustion when appropriate. Fine acupuncture needles are only an option when suitable and agreed upon, ensuring your child is never pressured to have needles. Every step is explained, parents and carers are involved, and treatment progresses at your child’s pace.
Whether you seek acupuncture for pain relief related to a specific issue or are focused on your child’s general wellbeing, Nadja is here to discuss the suitability of treatment, help set realistic expectations, and determine when a medical assessment may be necessary. Our holistic health approach complements your child’s usual healthcare, providing practical guidance where appropriate, with progress reviewed collaboratively.
Contact Nadja today to discuss your child’s needs or to learn more about our acupuncture gift cards, as well as our online booking options. Don't forget to check our client reviews for more insights into our Five Element Acupuncture approach.

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that involves inserting very fine needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of energy (Qi) and promote natural healing. It has been practised for over 2,000 years and is used to treat a wide range of physical and emotional conditions.
Five Element Acupuncture is a classical style of acupuncture that treats the whole person — body, mind, and spirit — by identifying and treating the root cause of imbalance. It is based on the philosophy that each person is a unique blend of five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.
Yes. When practised by a qualified and registered acupuncturist, acupuncture is very safe. Nadja is a fully insured member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and adheres to strict codes of safe practice and professional conduct.
Most people find acupuncture to be a relaxing and comfortable experience. The needles used are extremely fine — much thinner than a hypodermic needle — and insertion is usually painless. You may feel a mild tingling, warmth, or a dull ache around the needle, which is a sign that the treatment is working.
This varies depending on your condition, how long you have had it, and how your body responds to treatment. Some people notice improvements after just one or two sessions; others benefit from a course of treatment. Nadja will discuss a treatment plan with you at your first appointment.
Your first appointment lasts approximately 90 minutes. Nadja will take a detailed case history, ask about your health, lifestyle, and well-being, and carry out a physical assessment. She will then provide your first acupuncture treatment, tailored to your individual needs.
Acupuncture can support a wide range of conditions, including chronic pain, stress and anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, fertility, women's health, migraines, and more. Generally speaking, it can help with conditions that you would search a Western medical professional.
A first appointment (90 minutes) is £65. Follow-up appointments (60 minutes) are £48. Paediatric session (variable duration- around 40 minutes) is £45. We also offer care bundles for those committing to a course of treatment.
AcuZen is located at Hoole MediSpa, 51 Hoole Road, Chester, CH2 3NH. We are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Yes. Nadja has completed additional training in paediatric acupuncture and is a member of the Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA). She welcomes babies, children and teenagers, tailoring each session to their age, needs and comfort.
Treatment may include gentle acupuncture or non-needle techniques such as laser acupuncture, moxibustion, Tui Na massage and ear seeds, where appropriate. Needles are not essential: Nadja explains each technique, involves parents and carers, and works at your child’s pace. Treatment complements your child’s usual medical care.
Acupuncture can be safe and beneficial during pregnancy when carried out by a qualified practitioner. Nadja has experience treating pregnant women and will always adapt treatment to ensure it is safe and appropriate for your stage of pregnancy.
You can book online via our booking page or contact us by phone, text message, WhatsApp (preferred), or email. We recommend booking in advance, as appointments can fill up quickly.
We ask that you give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations or missed appointments are subject to a cancellation fee.
Some private health insurance policies cover acupuncture. Nadja is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and is registered with Healthcode, a UK platform used by insurers including AXA Health, Aviva, Bupa and Vitality.
Healthcode registration does not automatically mean that every insurer or policy covers treatment at AcuZen. Before booking, please ask your insurer whether your policy covers acupuncture with Nadja and whether you need a referral or pre-authorisation.
You pay AcuZen for your appointment, and we provide an itemised receipt for you to submit for reimbursement, subject to your policy’s terms.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be easily rolled up to the elbows and knees. Depending on the area being treated, you may be asked to undress partially — towels and blankets are always provided for your comfort and privacy. Please do not use perfum and makeup on your first session to help with the Traditional diagnosis.
Yes — it is advisable to have a light meal or snack a couple of hours before your treatment. Avoid coming on an empty stomach, as this can make you feel lightheaded during or after the session.
Acupuncture is generally very well tolerated. Some people experience mild bruising, slight bleeding, or temporary soreness at needle sites. Occasionally, people feel tired or emotional after a session — this is a normal part of the healing process and usually passes quickly.
